Book Presentation and Hybrid Colloquium
This book titled, Architectural Confluence: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, is a rare attempt to open up a discussion on aspects of the discursive field of architecture especially related to culture, history, theory and criticism in Nigeria. The aim is to raise the issues and debates which frame the quest for the development of local architecture and urban design which are culture-specific.
The occasion of the presentation of this book is also an important moment in the history of the University of Lagos, Department of Architecture, as Prof. Joseph Igwe, after forty years, retires from the service of the university.
In fact, the book is written in his honour in recognition of his devotion to cultural issues in design and the promotion of scholarship in the history theory and criticism of architecture, over many years. In this respect and in a befitting manner the authors have focused on Planning and Architectural History, Local Arts and Crafts in Design Philosophy, Architectural Forms as local Metaphor, Crisis resolution in Urban Design, Arts and Crafts Principles in Architecture and the Critique of Architectural Education.
The papers make interesting reading and advance the course of culture in Architecture.
